    1.系所簡介Introduction

      To cooperate with the national sports policy of Taiwan and the development needs of the leisure industry, the technical and vocational education combined sports, health and leisure, these three major fields into one concept. Thus, the Department of Sports, Health and Leisure is established in 2003 and the Graduate Institute of Sports, Health and Leisure was established in 2007. This department aims to cultivate the overall concept of sports, health and leisure and hopes the students has sufficient professional knowledge in their own fields to cope up with the popularity of concept of sports and fitness and the increase in the demand of leisure and recreation especially in fitness-oriented field such as commercial sports and fitness center, recreational grounds, sports training teams, community and professional trainers, varsity team trainers and physical education teachers. Moreover, to develop a sustained economic growth based on the industry and to cooperate with the two-day weekend implementation, the department combined the advantages of the sports industry with the demands in the development of the leisure industry aiming to train sports and leisure industry’s management professionals both in theory and in practice. As the department grew over the years, it took the training talents and linking them to possible employment development trend into consideration and thus, changed the name of the department into the Department of Leisure and Sports Management(休閒與運動管理系所).

     

    2. Characteristics(Vision and Mission)

      This department followed the development goals, educational philosophy and purpose of the department and proposed the following principles: (1) professionalize sports coaches, (2) professionalize fitness guidance, (3) emergence of the sports industry, (4) popularize the leisure industry, (5) industrialize the academic research, (6) localize the education. To echo the needs of the industry,  look forward to future trends, capture knowledge development and technological progress, the department set the five specific goals: (1) develop sports training professionals with full (sports, fitness and recreation) guiding abilities, (2) develop service and management professionals in the sports and leisure industry, (3) integrate high-quality teachers and excellent facilities to enhance the academic and research standards, (4) provide the necessary professional services needed by the industry to enhance the industry-academe ability, (5) provide an educational channel to the professionals working in the industries of southern Taiwan.

     

      Aside from continuing with the goals of the department, the development of the graduate institute with particular emphasis on the “science of sports training” and “leisure industry management” with the idea of enhancing training methods, high-end sports coaches, leisure industry management personnel and other related academic research professionals. In specific terms, the graduate institute aims to: (1) develop excellent sports coaches and enhance national competitive strength, (2) train sports science research personnel and comprehensive support systems, (3) develop human resource for health promotion campaign and reinforce health care system, (4) train sports and leisure industry professionals and boost the development of related industries, (5) train sports and leisure research personnel to create another wave of economic peak.

     

    3. Curriculum

      According to the sports and leisure industry development, the department emphasized on gradual learning, expansion and practical application by providing major subjects set by the school and the department to develop the fundamental knowledge and skills of the students, group recommended elective classes to meet the needs of the sports and leisure industry business requirements and other elective classes provided by the department to conform with the interests and aptitudes of the students and to strengthen their competitiveness and employment capacity.

      The curriculum of this department is planned according to four groups, sports training, health and fitness, hotel management and industrial operations. To cultivate the competitive advantage in the future employment and studies of the students, the department hire professors with abundant practical experiences and provide complete training classrooms to assist students in obtaining different professional license such as license in coaching, sports refereeing, physical guidance, convention and exhibition, tour guide, beverage preparation, hospitality services and computer software applications.

     

    4. Faculty

      The department has a total of 31 full-time teachers. There are 26 assistant professors which occupies 83% of the total population. The faculty is strong and sturdy where professors have numerous practical experiences.

     

    5. Facilities and Equipments

      The department has diverse and complete major professional classrooms such as physical and physiological testing classrooms, sports injury prevention classroom, physical training classroom, special group fitness training classroom, exercise stress analysis classroom, sports biochemical analysis classrooms, sports motion analysis classrooms, professional sports guide classroom, food service classrooms, travel transportation information management classrooms, hotel management classrooms, drink and beverage management classrooms, tea art classrooms and recreational data center.
